Another rain event hammered Saratoga Tuesday night so that washed the turf races away and canceled the AP Smithwick Steeplechase (Grade 1). That meant several races had small fields since many turf trainers do not want to risk running their horses on dirt after training them on grass. Let’s face it, during a heatwave Saratoga gets its share of thunderstorms. Fred made the best of it by hitting exactas in the 2nd ($22), 5th ($14) and 7th ($102). He had a couple of other winners but could not catch the bottom half. Let’s try to build from here!
